The Centre for Atmospheric and Climate Sciences (CACS) at IIT Madras conducts research on the Earth's climate and atmosphere in the Anthropocene era. The aim is to better understand the impact of climate change and develop solutions to mitigate its effects. The Centre collaborates with international institutions and researchers to advance global climate research and create a sustainable future. CACS has created high-performance computing facilities and research infrastructure for computational modeling and observational programs. The Centre also undertakes sponsored and consultancy projects from government agencies and industry, and promotes scientific collaboration with national and international universities and research institutions through exchange visits and training facilities.
The research activities of the Centre have been oriented towards achieving fundamental understanding of the various atmospheric and climatic processes which have immense relevance to society.
